Diabetes Prevalence, Detection and Prevention in Africa 2021

Diabetes Prevalence in Africa

Diabetes Prevalence in Africa

Did you know that more than half of diabetic patients go undiagnosed in the Africa region?

Despite having the lowest diabetes prevalence estimate of 4.5% among IDF regions, Africa has the highest proportion of undiagnosed diabetes. The undiagnosed proportion of diabetes prevalence in Africa is 53.6%. Also, the IDF Diabetes Atlas 2021 estimates that the number of diabetic patients will more than double by 2045.

Whilst many African governments have been steadily increasing healthcare expenditure as their economies develop, public awareness and education on chronic diseases are still lacking. Therefore is important to increase awareness of this chronic disease and manage it effectively.
