More effort required to control BP in type 2 diabetes

The proportion of diabetic patients with controlled blood pressure (BP) nearly doubled between 1988 and 2004, but was still only around 30% in 2004, write Dong-Churl Suh, MD (Rutgers University School of Pharmacy, Piscataway, New Jersey, USA) and colleagues in the Journal of Hypertension. And they add that "aggressive public health efforts are needed to improve BP control in Type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension." ...

Background Self bolld pressure monitoring at home may improve blood pressure control and patient's compliance with treatment, but its implementation in daily practice faces difficulties. Teletransmission facilities may offer a more efficient approach to long-term home blood pressure monitoring.
